Blackford, Office of Court Martial, Head Qrs., Gen. Longstreets' Division, Army No. Va., receipt docketing at left ties pair, original letter datelined "Surgeon General's Office, Richmond Va. Sept. 5th 1863" from George S. Barnsley to a friend written very eloquently concerning war and romance; small stamp flaws, Very Fine and rare imprint.

George S. Barnsley (1837-1918) was from Woodlands Plantation Ga. He was a Confederate solider, hospital steward, medical student, and assistant surgeon in the 8th Georgia Regiment. He enlisted with his brother Lucian in Company A of the 8th Ga. Regiment, participating in the First Battle of Manassas.
