Ryukyus, Kume Island, 1945, 7s black on cream, position 3, upper right corner single with huge margins, cancelled by neat Okinawa Kume Shima "20 10 6" favor cds for October 6th 1945, without gum as issued, some creasing mostly in margin with small top edge flaws, still Extremely Fine and choice, ex-Wilson, Schoberlin, Head.

A REMARKABLY RARE USED CORNER MARGIN EXAMPLE OF THE KUME ISLAND 1945 7S PROVISIONAL ISSUE.

This single from a block of six was originally personal property of LCDR Elwood J. Wilson, USNR, Commanding Officer of Military Government Detachment B-101-X. In this capacity, and as Deputy Military Governor of Kume Shima, he authorized the printing and issuing of this provisional postage stamp on October 1st, 1945. On October 6 (Showa 20) 1945, shortly before finally departing the Island, he requested Postmaster Norifumi Kikuzato to cancel a sheet of the stamps for him as a World War II souvenir.
