France, 1854, Napoleon III imperforate, 20c blue on bluish, type I, ample to large margins, tied by "Genova, Lug 19, 61" origin cds on cover to Paris, France, with second strike at right, red "Sardaigne, Guloz, 21, Juil, 61" transit and partial receiving backstamp, treated unpaid with "6" due handstamp, Very Fine and unusual, an interesting attempted usage of French postage in Italy; with 1993 Raybaudi certificate. Maury No. 14 I.

Far from the period of the War of '59, when it was allowed to French military make use of its stamps aboard, sometimes even canceled by civil offices. You can assume that this small envelope was franked by a commercial traveler and dued at upon arrival.
