Liberia, Monrovia 22nd Sept 1839, dateline on 3-page letter written and signed by Governor Thomas Buchanan, to New York with red "Norfolk, Va., Jan 16" cds and matching straight line "Ship" handstamp, manuscript "27" rate and "pr Ship Jaludeo, Capt Waters" endorsement, letter with some interesting content…We have just closed the first session of our Colonial legislation under the new Constitution after transacting a good deal of important business, including the prohibition of ardent spirits, mentions his recent movement against slavers, etc., F.-V.F., a historically important letter by Governor Thomas Buchanan just after the first session of the Colonial legislation.
