A UNIQUE COMBINATION USAGE OF THE 5¢ CHARLESTON PROVISIONAL AND THE 5¢ DE LA RUE PRINTING ISSUES.

The Charleston Provisional was placed on sale on September 4, 1861 and withdrawn on arrival of the first stamps from the Confederate Post Office Department. The provisional stamp continued to used into early 1862 and by mid-June the remaining provisional stamps were placed on sale again, apparently due to a shortage of regular postage stamps.
