1856 (Dec. 20) New York N.Y. to Halifax N.S., folded letter bearing 10¢ green, type II (14), four large margins, tied by "New York, Dec 20" ocean mail cds, reverse with St. Andrews (12.23), St. John (12.24) transits and Halifax (12.29) arrival; some light edge wear, Very Fine; with 1985 P.F. certificate.

From July 6th 1851, the rate to the United States was 3d cy. to the Frontier, prepayment optional. Letters were sent prepaid at 6d cy. or sent unpaid and charged 10¢ on arrival up to 3,000 miles distance and 9d cy. or 15¢ on arrival if over 3,000 miles. According to an agreement effective from December 1st 1852 part payments were not allowed.
