1859 (Apr. 29) Chatham N.B. to St. John's, Newfoundland, blue folded letter bearing New Brunswick 1851, 6d olive yellow, single and bisect (2, 2b), clear to mostly large margins, tied by two strikes of blue "8" grid cancels, matching blue "Chatham, AP 29 1859" origin backstamp, endorsed "per Mail via Halifax" at top, reverse with Sackville (4.30) and Halifax (5.2) transits, St. John's (5.9) arrival cds, single with insignificant tear mostly in margin; convenience overpayment of 1d cy. for the 3d cy. internal rate plus 5d cy. (4d stg.) packet rate, Very Fine, ex-Pack, Lichtenstein, Cartier, Foxbridge, Koh; signed Warren H. Colson (backstamp).

A MAGNIFICENT COVER WITH A UNIQUE BISECT FRANKING PREPAYING THE 8D RATE FROM NEW BRUNSWICK TO NEWFOUNDLAND.

The beautiful color of these stamps is a radiant shade nearing that of yellow. There were no 1d stamps at this time in New Brunswick, and the 1d convenience overpayment was required as a result.
