1841 (Aug. 17) Halifax N.S. to Bermuda, datelined folded letter with "Halifax, Nova-Scotia, Aug 17, 1841" rimless cds and manuscript "4" rating for 4d cy. packet rate, additional "7d" rating; small erosion role, Very Fine. Estimate $150 - 200.
From 1765, the packet postage between Halifax and Bermuda was 4d. stg. Any inland postage was separate. From December 5th 1842, the rate was per ½ oz.
On the introduction of decimal currency the packet rate became 8½¢. On May 1st 1862, the rate from Halifax increased to 10¢ and prepayment became compulsory.
