Confederacy, Mails Suspended, clear strike of oval handstamp on cover from Edinburgh, Scotland addressed to Messrs John Fraser & Co. at Charleston S.C., blind embossed "P McE & C" seal on flap, "Paid at Edinburgh, AU 14 63" origin cds and large bold red "2/-" manuscript prepaid rating for double the transatlantic packet, carried by Cunard Line Persia from Liverpool Aug. 15th to New York arriving Aug. 26th, red "N. York Br. Pkt. '48 Paid' Aug 26, 1863" exchange cds (date inverted), red crayon "10" for double-rate credit, Very Fine, ex-Brandon; with 1974 C.S.A. certificate.

The "Mails Suspended" oval handstamp was applied at the Washington D.C. Dead Letter Office on mail to the Confederate States.
