Gregory's Express Office, San Francisco, clear strike of blue three-line handstamp (GRE-111) on c. 1852-53 folded letter to Baltimore, Md., with matching "Paid" on oval handstamp; edge tone spot at top center, Very Fine, a rare example of this Gregory's three-line handstamp type, with only seven examples recorded in the Thomas census with this example not recorded. The ship that conveyed this letter to the eastern seaboard may have gone directly to Baltimore since there is no indication of mailing or private carriage from New York.
