1861 (Mar. 27) New York N.Y. to St. Petersburg, Russia, blue folded cover by Prussian Closed Mail with "New York '23' Mar 27" debit exchange cds to Prussia, carried as endorsed by Cunard Line Arabia from New York Mar. 27th to Queenstown arriving Apr. 7th, red Aachen (4.9) backstamp and large blue manuscript "12/2" debit to Russia, Russian magenta "56" due rating on back, blue J.W. Schmidt & Co. New-York merchants oval, Very Fine, ex-Hahn.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

The Russian postage due of 56 kopecks marked in magenta pen on the reverse. This consisted of 46 kopecks to cover Prussian debit and 10 kopecks Russian internal fees. Aachen marked "12/2" in bright blue ink to show breakdown of Prussian debit to Russia, 12 silbergroschen "foreign" transit and 2 silbergroschen German transit.
