Lipona, Jeff., Florida "June 2nd", bold strike of rimless circular datestamp with manuscript date and matching "Free" rating on 1830 folded letter from Col. James Gadsden to Andrew Jackson, President U.S., Washington, the Autographed Letter Signed James Gadsden addressed "Dear General" and datelined "Wasiapa 1 June 1830" relative to appointment of Cadet Gadsden, flap with President Jackson's notation "Letter from Col. James Gadsden of Florida, Referred to the Navy Department"; reinforced fold splitting sealing letter closed, clean and Very Fine, ex-Meroni.

Lipona was located 10 miles from Tallahassee on the mail route to Micanopy and was the site of a 10,000 acre plantation of Prince Achille Murate, exiled son of the King of Naples and a nephew of Napoleon Boneparte. Murat became known as Col. Murat after his marriage to a daughter of Virginian Col. B. Willis. Lipona is an anagram of Naples. The post office was established May 8th 1828 and operated until December 16, 1847.
