Falkland Islands, 1871 (Jan. 30) Port Stanley, Falkland Islands to Southport Ct., unpaid cover with full contents, carried on Pacific Steam Navigation Company Foam from Port Stanley Jan. 31st to Montevideo, then by PSNC Nemesis departing Montevideo Feb. 12th to Liverpool arriving Mar. 18th, red London (3.18) backstamp, blue crayon "26" cent debit to U.S. for 24¢ transit plus 2¢ sea from Liverpool, carried by Cunard Line Java departing Liverpool Mar. 18th to New York arriving Mar. 30th, pencil "31 Cts Due" and "New York '31 U.S. Notes' Mar 30" depreciated currency cds equivalent to 28¢ in coin (26¢ for the British debit plus 2¢ inland to Southport). Opened at on end, Very Fine.

AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE FALKLAND ISLANDS TRANSATLANTIC USE TO THE UNITED STATES.

The enclosed letter is from Captain Richard M. D. Nugent, master of the ship "Lookout" which was repaired in Port Stanley between October 1870 and February 1871, and includes an invoice for costs. The British rated the letter as being from Montevideo (12 pence) rather than the Falklands (6 pence).
