Danish West Indies, 1842 (Feb. 22) St. Thomas to Edinburgh, Scotland, light gray folded cover clear strike of small green "St. Thomas" straightline with inverted "S", carried by Falmouth packet to Great Britain, red London (4.24) cds backstamp with manuscript "1/5" 1s5d due rating for the reduced 1s 3d packet rate plus 2d inland postage, a Very Fine strike.

ONE OF ONLY FOUR RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE SMALL "ST. THOMAS" GREEN STRAIGHTLINE HANDSTAMP.

The green "St. Thomas" straightline markings were applied upon arrival at Falmouth on loose packets letters arriving from St. Thomas, and are only recorded during the 1840-41 period. Most letters during this period had the boxed "Packet Letter" markings.
