Garland C.T. Oct 17, sharp bold strike of cds with matching cork cancel on 3¢ green (158) on cover to Lake City Colo., fancy printed "Thomas & Co. Storage, Forwarding and Commission Merchants" corner card, blue oval Paid handstamp, original enclosed merchant letter inquires about collecting $335 due from Mr. Roley now living in Tellurium, Very Fine and choice.
Estimate    $250 - 350.

Garland was established in Costilla county just west of La Veta Pass in 1858. The settlers in the valley needed protection from the roaming Ute tribe in the valley. The area was at one time in the New Mexico Territory, however, after the survey in 1861 became part of the Colorado Territory.
