"Mt Hope, August 30th", manuscript postmark with matching "25" cent rating 1840 to South Reading Vt., forwarded with blue "So Reading Vt, 25 Sept" postmark and matching "forwdg 6" rating totaled to "31" cents, interesting letter reads in part "…I have traveled in a number of counties in this state and can say that I am very much pleased with the situation of it. The mighty Mississippi River washes its eastern boundary then through the interior is the Muddy Missouri bringing the remains of the ages from the Rocky Mountains. The natural resource of this state are not excelled by any other in the Union…I am teaching the young military drill and hot to fire…I have two classes one in Boonville and one in Arrow Rock 100 miles below this…The state is rapidly settling up and there is an abundance of government land yet for a dollar and a quarter per acre…", Very Fine.Estimate $200 - 300.
