Sicily, 1859 Ferdinand II 20g slate gray, tied by horseshoe cancels in combination with 2gr. light blue, Plate III on 1860 folded cover from Messina 2.7.60. to Genova, red three line "Piroscafi Postali Francesi" handstamp on face and backstamped with red Genova arrival handstamp of 6.7. 60., adhesive with large margins to just shaving design of 20gr. at top right, Very Fine and attractive; with 2011 Vaccari certificate. Scott Nos. 17.

A remarkable late usage. Garibaldi abolished the use of stamps carrying Ferdinand II's effigy on 23 July 1860.
