Lipman, Philadelphia (Unstated Value) Black on Yellow Orange Card, Forerunner Postal Card Essay, typographed on 131 x 77mm yellow orange card with white paper backing ruled vertically with light blue lines 7mm apart and printed Lipman advertisement, rubber band adherence abrasion, F.-V.F. Scott No. UX1E.

THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS LIPMAN FORERUNNER CARD WITH PRINTED ADVERTISEMENT ON REVERSE.

John P. Charlton of Philadelphia copyrighted the first post card design that required an adhesive stamp in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on December 17th 1861. H.L. Lipman, another stationer was affiliated with Charlton and manufactured these for sale to the general public. Lipman's ad is on the reverse of this card.
