ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THIS 1¢ DIE ESSAY ORIGINALLY INTENDED FOR THE 1891 1¢ POSTAL CARD ISSUE.

The lettering and ornamentation around the vignette was originally produced as Miscellaneous Die Number 3652 of the Bureau of Engraving & Printing during May 1890, but was remade during May and October as Miscellaneous Die Number 3651 (numbering assigned out of proper order) by David M. Cooper and Edward E. Myers.
