New Port, straightline handstamp with manuscript "Paid 1.8" 1s8d rating on circa 1788 folded letter to Norwich Conn., some interesting political content from William Ellery of the Loan Office, "…I wish you would take that letter to Congress with you which I wrote to you about my salary…Whether there will be any solicitors for offices from this State except my Son & msyself I cannot tell - If any of the paper money, anticipated gentry should presume to solicit for offices from a Government they have treated with Contempt I hope they will be treated as they deserve. Paul Mumford Esqr. and Joseph Tweedy Esqr. are the only anti-federal paper-money gentlemen who this town who have brass and meaness enough to acs favours from those who have abused…"; signature removed, fold toning, Fine; with 1996 A.P.S. certificate.
