Hawaii, 1865, 5¢ blue on blue, Plate 9-A, Type IX (Westerberg Position 1), four mostly large margins, irregular at lower right corner, tied by 9-bar square grid cancel, red "Honolulu U.S. Postage Paid May 17" cds (Gregory HON US34), used with U.S. 5¢ Brown (76), tied by cogwheel cancel, matching bold "San Francisco Cal. Jun. 12, 1865" double-circle datestamp on orange buff cover to Colrain Mass., 5¢ brown tiny tear at bottom, lifted and replaced slightly askew, 5¢ blue light corner crease at top left, cover with small repair at bottom right, Very Fine appearance, ex-Seybold, Steiner; with 2005 P.F. certificate.

A SCARCE AND DESIRABLE MIXED FRANKING WITH THE 1865 5¢ "HAWAIIAN ISLANDS" NUMERAL ISSUE AND U.S. 5¢ BROWN 1863 ISSUE.

This cover was carried on the American Bark D.C. Murray from Honolulu May 18th 1865 to San Francisco arriving Jun. 10th. Then sent via overland mail from San Francisco Jun. 12th.
