1858 (Jun. 6) Calcutta, India to Boston Mass., light salmon cover with sharp "Forwarded by Wills Brothers & Co., Calcutta" oval and red "Cal., 6, Jun, 1858, G.P.O." origin cds on reverse, endorsed "Per 'Candia' via Southampton", framed "INDIA UNPAID" handstamp and pencil "1" pence colonial debit to London, red London (8.2) transit backstamp and manuscript "12" debit, carried by Inman Line City of Washington from Liverpool Aug. 4th to New York arriving Aug. 18th, black "New.York, Am. Packet. Aug 19"; cover tears, Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Calcutta struck small boxed INDIA UNPAID and debited G.B. 1 penny for colonial fee. London debited U.S. 12¢ for transit fees from India via Southampton.
