Post & Co., San Francisco, endorsed "p Eva Johanna", carried as endorsed by Dutch Ship Eva Johanna that departed Hong Kong Jul. 9th to San Francisco arriving Aug. 31st 1857, entered mails with "San Francisco Cal, Sep 8 1857" cds and matching "SHIP" and "3" rating handstamps, forwarded by G.B. Post probably on Am. Bark Yankee from San Francisco Sep. 9th to Honolulu arriving Sep. 24th. Estimate $5,000 - 7,500.

The "Eva Johanna" encountered severe weather on the way according to the Sep. 1st 1857 Daily Alta California: "…off the Island of Formosa, experienced a severe typhoon, which carried away the main topgallant mast, main topgallant yard and jibboom…". She was left in port for repairs and departed San Francisco back to Hong Kong on Sep. 30th.
