(Transpacific Mail) 1870 (May 9) Yokohama, Japan to Kingston N.Y. via San Francisco, cover bearing 10¢ yellow (116), well-centered, minor gum toning around perfs, tied by quartered cork cancel (Ishikawa Ty. Va) duplexed with partial Yokohama cds, endorsed "P.M.S.S Co. Str. Great Republic" at top left, "San Francisco Cal., Jun 15" entry cds, engraved crest on flap; small repair at top right corner of cover, otherwise Very Fine, ex-Ishikawa.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Original matching enclosure with engraved crest that no longer accompanies datelined "U.S. Flag Ship Delaware, Yokohama May 9th, 1870" mentions arrival of next mail in Yokohama on May 22nd and discussed U.S. plans for Queen Victoria's birthday regatta on the 24th.
