Bostona, blue oval handstamp ties 3¢ red, grilled (94) on circa 1869 cover to Hoboken N.J., put onto steamer enroute to Portsmouth.

In July 1860, G. Gibson and W. McCline of the Cincinnati, Maysville & Portsmouth Packet Co. were contacted at $2,000 a year for three trips a week between Cincinnati & Portsmouth. The "Bostona" of 355 tons was built at Cincinnati in 1854 and used for the contract. The use of a "Way" marking within a name-of-boat marking is unique to this steamboat and route.
