1870, 10¢ brown, N.B.N.C. printing, horizontal strip of three, in combination with 1870, 2¢ red brown (146) on double rate cover from Yokohama, Japan to London, England, all canceled by cork handstamps with strip tied through perfs, "Yokohama, Japan, Apr 23" cds and manuscript via San Francisco & New York routing endorsement, red New York, May 23 transit and London entry cds's; cover wrinkling and couple small flaws in right 10¢ pair, F.-V.F.

This 32¢ prepayment includes the double 10¢ transpacific rate from Japan to the United States plus the double 6¢ transatlantic rate to England. Only two such double rates are known to us. The other bearing a 1869 Pictorial issue franking.
