Lot 2034    

Via Nicaragua, Ahead of the Mails, two line handstamp in black on cover to Philadelphia, Pa. franked with 1851, 3¢ dull red, horizontal pair (11A), carried from San Francisco and entered the mails with "New York, Ship, Feb 4" cds tying pair; couple cover creases one affecting right stamp and ink spot at bottom, Very Fine appearance, an extremely rare "Via Nicaragua" marking in black.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Virtually all of these markings are found in red. Only a few markings are known in blue or black.

Lot 2035    

Via Nicaragua, Ahead of the Mails, bold red box handstamp on cover to Boston, Mass. franked with 1851, 3¢ dull red, horizontal pair (11A), carried from San Francisco and entered the mails with "New York, Sep 9" cds; minor cover corner wear, Very Fine, this cover left San Francisco on August 16, 1853 and placed in the N.Y. Post Office September 9th.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Via Nicaragua, Ahead of the Mails, clear sharp strike of boxed handstamp on 1853, 6¢ Nesbitt entire to Abington, Mass. with additional endorsement below, carried from San Francisco and entered the mails with "New-York, Ship, Nov 29" cds canceling indicia; cover barely reduced at sides, Very Fine.
