Gage as part of a group of six strips of 5 of the 10¢ imperforates affixed to a May 30, 1857 letter from Sacramento, Cal. to an eastern publisher for payment of a subscription. The publisher returned stamps to the sender with a note that they where unusable due to the stamps being stuck down and asked for currency for the payment.
