Mexico, 1861, Second Issue, 4r dull rose on yellow, vertical bisect, Puebla, left portion of stamp in combination with 1861, Second Issue, ½r black on buff, Puebla on piece tied by Puebla date stamps (Schatzkes 1153), Very Fine, in the 1970's census there are only 22 bisects, 10 are from Puebla, this combination is most likely unique, ex-Dormer.

Lot 542    

Mexico, 1861, Second Issue, 4r dull rose on yellow, without district overprint (Veracruz), tied on piece by full perfect strike of oval Veracruz handstamp (Schatzkes 1751) used under French control, Extremely Fine, very scarce as only 2,280 stamps were issued and very few have the French occupation cancel; with 2022 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

Mexico, 1861, Second Issue, 8r black on red brown, quadrisect, Guanajuato, upper left portion of stamp tied by Guanajato cds (Schatzkes 476) on cover to Mexico City, with blue "Estado De Guanajuato, Aduana De La Capital" official cachet handstamp, Very Fine and choice, there are less than 10 covers with splits from official correspondence, as splits were forbidden but tolerated; with 1986 Jaretzky & 2015 M.E.P.S.I. certificates.

Mexico, 1861, Second Issue, 8r black on red brown, vertical bisect, Durango, right portion of stamp in combination with 1861, Second Issue, 4r black on yellow, quadrisect, Durango upper right portion of stamp, both showing district overprint, tied together on piece by boxed Durango date stamp (Schatzkes 234), Very Fine, in the 1970's census there are only 18 quadrisects and 33 bisects, however the census does not list any quadrisects, and only lists 2 bisects from this district, ex-Shelton & Foster; with 1978 & 1990 M.E.P.S.I. certificates.

Mexico, 1861, Second Issue, 8r green on red brown, Saltillo, red Moncolva boxed date stamp cancel (Schatzkes 1399), huge margins with small clips at corners, tiny pinhole and crease, otherwise Extremely Fine, a rarity of the issue as 120 were issued, only 3 to 4 are known (NF $1,500), ex-Mazepa; with 2001 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
