January 18th 1850" to To Joseph Albert Wright, Governor of Indiana (1849-1857) at Indianapolis, Indiana bearing 5¢ red brown (1) rich color with full margins to just touched, manuscript "X" cancel; stamp with slight age spotting, a Very Fine 1847 Issue Railroad use.

(Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad) Smyrna, N. & C. R.R., Feb 4, 1859, perfect strike of station oval ties 3¢ dull red (26), straddle-line s.e. at right, on small cover to South Glen's Falls, N.Y.; small edge tear top left, Extremely Fine and choice, Rarity X, The Towle Listing Example.

Put onto Route 10006 and carried 20 miles north to Nashville for routing via Louisville to New York and South Glen Falls.

Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad. Route 10006 of 153 miles twice daily. Contract value $36,662 a year. On May 31st 1861 all contracts in the seceded States were cancelled, the Confederate Post Office taking them over for themselves.

(Northern Central Railroad) No. Central R.R., blue 30mm cds ties 3¢ ultramarine (114) on purple cover to New York City; tiny bit of perf tip toning, F.-V.F.
Towle Nos. 195-E-1 var.    Estimate $200 - 300.

Envelope file noted "18 June" and carried on Route 1821 for Williamsport and transfer eastward via Washington and Baltimore for New York in circa 1869. Although Towle recorded four datestamps on this route, they were all between 25 to 26.5 mm diameter. This 30mm example is a previously unrecorded type.

BALTIMORE, MD. R.R., AUG 18 1838, red straightline handstamp on folded cover docketed "Baltimore Aug 15, 1838" to Philadelphia Pa. with manuscript "12½" cent rating for under 100 miles; ex-Wyer, Extremely Fine and choice.
