Hatch, Gray & Co's Express (By), blue oval handstamp on cover to Amos Bates (private independent carrier, Bates & Co.) in New Bedford, Mass., manuscript "Order $15 Enclosed" endorsement at top, reverse with additional handstamp strike (partial bottom flap), also includes a 1844 folded letter to New Bedford endorsed "pr Hatch's Express" at top, both Very Fine, one of two known examples of this handstamp with manuscript usage probably unique.
