Wells, Fargo & Co. Express, group of 10 labels comprising San Quentin Cal., San Andreas Cal., Visalia Cal., Mok Hill Cal., Sacramento Cal. small and medium size, three New York N.Y. "Valuable Package" 1910s uses, and 1911 large-size cover with San Francisco Depot Cal. and FF Mission Branch labels, F.-V.F. group.

Wells, Fargo & Co. Express, unused group of 29 labels, includes Western Pacific Rte. and Sonora large-size, Medford Oregon, Aurora Oregon large, Shasta Cal., Dutch Flat Cal. large, C.O.D. labels, etc., also includes Pacific Mail Express Co. label, Very Fine group.

Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, "Bear Valley", black on orange label affixed over Wells Fargo imprint on 3¢ green entire to San Francisco Cal., indicia canceled by manuscript "Coll" for collect and matching "Sd. value $11000" at left, creased from placement over top edge, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Labels without printed town names were distributed to small offices.

Wells, Fargo & Co's Overland Express, "California R.R.", black on blue label with manuscript origin designation, some creases and flaws, affixed on legal-size cover bearing two 3¢ rose (65) singles, tied by sharp "Austin Nev, May 28" duplex with target cancel to Nashville Ill., remarkable strike of bold "Registered" framed handstamp at left; some light staining, reduced slightly at left, Fine and rare use, ex Dale-Lichtenstein.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE WELLS FARGO & CO. OVERLAND EXPRESS LABEL.

After buying out Ben Holladay in 1866, Wells Fargo ran the Overland Express over the same route as the earlier Pony Express. In 1867 the Central Pacific was building the transcontinental railroad across the Sierras.

Wells Fargo carried this envelope by stagecoach from the Central Pacific railroad to Austin in central Nevada where they posted it by registered mail to Illinois.

Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Elko, Nev., black on orange label affixed along with large black on yellow "C.O.D." label on legal-size County Recorder's Office, Elko, Nevada corner card cover to San Francisco Cal., manuscript "C.O.D. $5.00" notation; reduced slightly at right and partial flap, slight label oxidizing, otherwise Very Fine.
