Hawaii, 1868, 5¢ orange red, re-issue, trial color large die proof on india, 84 x 57mm India paper die sunk on slightly larger card with full die sinkage, die no. "C-217" at top, remarkably fresh color, a few minor toned spots far from design, still Very Fine and rare, ex-Middendorf.

THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS 5¢ 1868 TRIAL COLOR LARGE DIE PROOF SHOWING FULL DIE SINKAGE.

There is only one other example of this trial color proof recorded and it is cut to stamp size.
