Hawaii, 1866, 5¢ blue, in combination with United States 1867, 10¢ Green, E. Grill (89), natural wide s.e., both tied by circle of wedges cancels & Hawaii adhesive tied by light target cancel, incorrectly struck with black "Honolulu Hawaiian Islands, Aug. 7" (ca. 1868) cds (for unpaid postage) and "San Francisco, Cal., Aug. 19" transit datestamp on bright yellow cover to Reading, Mich., clear strike of magenta oval "Hawaiian Steam Service" handstamp, a few sealed tears at top edge of cover do not affect stamps, Very Fine, ex-Knapp and Honolulu Advertiser; with 1976 P.F. certificate.

A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE MIXED-FRANKING COVER WITH THE HAWAIIAN 5¢ KAMEHAMEHA ISSUE, U.S. 1868 10¢ GRILLED ISSUE AND "HAWAIIAN STEAM SERVICE" OVAL.

The 5¢ stamp paid the internal Hawaiian postage, and the 10¢ stamp paid the Pacific Mail Steamship Company contract mail rate from Hawaii to the U.S. The Honolulu post office occasionally used the "Hawaiian-Islands" datestamp in black instead of the "U.S. Postage Paid" in red when postmarking PMSS Co. contract mail.

Dec 8" cds on light buff cover to Salem, Mass.; some perf toning, 5¢ minor rounded corner, Very Fine; with 1976 P.F. certificate.

Although this was franked for Hawaiian Steam Service, this apparently went by non-contract ship and was overpaid.

Hawaii, 1866, 5¢ blue, horizontal pair, each with matching cross-hatch pen cancel, used with United States 1861, 3¢ rose (65) horizontal pair with s.e., tied by target cancels duplexed with "San Francisco Cal. Sep 16" cds on cover to San Francisco, portion of "Honolulu, U.S. Postage Paid, Aug 27" cds; cover with some wrinkling and tears, reduced at left into Honolulu datestamp, otherwise Fine, ex-Honolulu Advertiser, Twigg-Smith.

This is an unusual mixed franking from the Tillman correspondence showing payment of 10¢ Hawaiian for one ounce plus 6¢ U.S.

Hawaii, 1866, 5¢ blue, cancelled by six-section grid (Gregory sqgrid18-2 X 3) fancy cancel and replaced U.S. 10¢ green (68) stamp as original had fallen off, postmarked "Honolulu, Hawaiian-Islands, Apr 22" cds (HON HI35) on cover to San Francisco Cal. with sharp bold red "Hawaiian Steam Service" oval handstamp and endorsed "per 'Idaho' " at bottom left, "San Francisco Cal. May 6" cds, forwarded with blue crayon "ford. 3 cts" due rating to Vallejo, 1869 pencil receipt docketing on back noting answer on return Idaho sailing; reduced slightly at right, Fine, ex-Peters.
