Hawaii, "Oahu Sandwich Islands, July 15, 1840", dateline on folded letter to Augusta, Ga. endorsed "Bk. Flora, Jno. H. Spring Ca." at bottom left, carried as endorsed by American Bark Flora from Honolulu Aug. 3rd via Tahiti (9.3, sailed 9.23) and Pernambuco (1.4) to New York arriving Feb. 5th, entered mails with red "New-York, Ship, Feb. 5th " cds with manuscript "27" cent due rating for 25¢ inland postage plus 2¢ ship fee; edge wear, some abrasion from wax seal, Very Fine and early missionary letter.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Letter from "P.A.B." to his sister Mrs. E.E. Catlin reads "The Flora for New York offers the first direct opportunity for forwarding letters to the United States that has occurred for several months. I wrote several letters to go forward via Valparaiso about a month since and should have written you then but for the arrival of this ship…" and continues on to report of the death of his wife who had "moved down to Kolow on the Island of Kauai under the hope that the benefits of a little cooler climate and an entire suspension of her domestic solitudes might be of permanent service to her…I am absolutely alone and not one other dweller under my roof…I can make no further plans for the future when our Rev. Hooper who is now absent to the U States shall return…Could I consult my wished merely I should leave in the Flora. My duty requires me to stay…"

Hawaii, Honolulu, U.S. Postage Paid, Dec 11, red cds (236.05) on 1854 linen lined cover to Bangor, Me., "San Francisco, Cal., Jan 1" cds with matching "Paid 8 Ship" handstamp, with original enclosure from Chief Justice Elisha Allen; cover staining and some edge wear, Fine; signed Ashbrook.

Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands, Apr 5, red cds on circa 1857 fancy embossed lady's cover to Holmes Hole, Martha's Vineyard, Mass., partial black "San Francisco, Cal., 30 Apr" cds and matching "12" due handstamp, Very Fine and attractive lady's envelope.

Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaiian - Islands, Jan 24, red cds (MH 243.03) on cover to Glendale, O., franked with uncanceled 1857, 5¢ blue, thin white paper (defects), "San Francisco, Cal., 12, Feb 13, 1860" integral rate cds; stamp, with a trace of blue cancel, Fine appearance; with 1981 and 2005 P.F. certificates, both which decline opinion whether the stamp originated.

Hawaii, 1889 Germany 10pf Postal Card to Honolulu Board of Health, canceled by "Berlin, 27/2, 89" cds, message from the German Royal Library requesting some replacement pages for the book "Supplement, Leprosy in Hawaii, The Laws and Regulations in Regards to Leprosy in the Hawaiian Kingdom", San Francisco (3.16, 3.31) transits, reverse with red "Königl. Bibliothek, Berlin, 27 Feb 89" sender's oval, "Honolulu, Hawaii, all periods represented 7, 1889" arrival cds and bold purple "Board of Health * Honolulu, H.I. * Apr 8, 1889" double-oval; some minor tone spotting, otherwise Very Fine and attractive.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Any postal document concerning Hawaiian Leprosy laws is very uncommon.
