Mexico, Porte de Mar, 1875, 25c black, "5" added to 2c value, includes pair and single with no overprint and two singles with Vera Cruz district overprint, Very Fine, ex-Schimmer.
Scott No. JX9a    Estimate $150 - 200.

The 2c denomination was not included in the composite sheets that were issued at first. Instead it was printed in sheets of 56 stamps. With the 25c value most in demand, the 2c plate was worked over by adding figures of "5".

Lot 595

Mexico, Porte de Mar, 1875, 25c-100c black, 25c-50c vertical and 60c-100c horizontal pairs in composite block of 14, o.g., 100c value with thins, otherwise Very Fine.
Scott No. JX13    Estimate $750 - 1,000.

The first printing in composite sheets provided all major post offices with an initial supply within a short time. The calculated ratio of denominations proved to be unrealistic, so afterwards complete sheets of each denomination were issued, which are easier to find.

Realized: $950
