Bartow, Brooklyn N.Y., likely carried on the British Brig Gazelle from Honolulu Oct. 3rd to San Francisco arriving Oct. 29th; flap faulty and small edge tears, Very Fine appearance, ex-Nettles; with 1989 P.F. certificate.

Murdock, Brooklyn N.Y. used with United States 12¢ black (17), full margins to just touched, postmarked red "Hawaii, Honolulu, U.S. Postage Paid, Feb 22" cds, tied together by "San Francisco Cal Mar 16 1860" cds; cover missing top flap, sealed tears and small repair lower left, Fine, ex-Golden and Peters.

Carried by Hawaiian brig "Hero" from Honolulu Feb. 22nd 1860 to San Francisco Cal. arriving Mar. 14th. Entered mails with San Francisco Mar. 16th cds for the default overland route of the Butterfield stage via Los Angeles, El Paso and St. Louis. Prepaid 12¢ for the 10¢ transcontinental rate plus 2¢ ship fee.

Hawaii, 1857, 5¢ blue, thin white paper, ample margins to just in at top right, pencil tied, red "Honolulu Hawaiian Island Mar 1" postmark on yellow cover to Cambridgeport, Mass., carried by the George Washington to San Francisco Cal., "San Francisco, Cal, Mar 17, 1862" double-circle arrival, bold "Ship" and "12" due handstamp; small cover edge flaws, Fine and rare, ex-Emerson, Aall.

There are few examples reported with a Hawaiian adhesive stamp and without a U.S. stamp, possibly a use from a smaller office.

Hawaii, 1857, 5¢ blue, thin white paper, double impression, doubling visible along left side and at bottom, lightly canceled by San Francisco cds, minute thin speck and tiny corner crease, small red backstamp, Very Fine appearance, ex-Wilcox, Weill, Pietsch, Twigg-Smith.

ONE OF THE FINEST OF ONLY NINE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE 1857 5¢ SECOND PRINTING DOUBLE IMPRESSION ARE REPORTED.

According to Fred Gregory, at least two sheets of 20 were double printed. On stamps from one sheet, the double impression is clearly visible along the left side of the design, but the entire design does show doubling. On the second sheet, the doubling is clearly visible across the entire design.
