1914, 2¢ carmine, S.L. watermark, vertical flat plate coil, strip of 5 tied by New York, Times Square Sta. duplexes, Jan 14, 1915, paying the 10¢ Special Delivery fee on a 2¢ stamped envelope (U412) addressed locally and backstamped the same day at New York Station H, F.-V.F., a most unusual usage of this scarce coil.

1914, 2¢ carmine, S.L. watermark, horizontal flat plate coil, unusual single from the beginning of the coil roll showing a fragment of the manila leader tape at left, tied by neat Dayton, Ohio machine cancel, May 19, 1914, the earliest documented usage, on a two-color illustrated (front & back) advertising cover of The Air-Friction Carburetor Co., Very Fine. An important coil variety for the Washington-Franklin collector, ex-"Alpha"; with 2004 A.P.S. certificate.
