1908, 1¢ green, D.L. watermark, imperf, vertical coil, tied by "Philadelphia, Pa. 1909" third-class machine cancel on lovely large-size green Christmas card envelope to Canton Ohio, Very Fine early use, This was considered the EKU since no 1909 covers had surface, but a Nov. 1909 use has surfaced, ex-Alpha (Berkun); with 2004 A.P.S. certificate.

The stamp is unquestionably a vertical format imperforate coil as it was applied by a Simplex plunger-style affixing device that miscut it through the top labels and having the top portion of the stamp below.

1908, 2¢ carmine, D.L. watermark, imperf, vertical coil, foreign entry of 1¢ design, o.g., some never hinged including foreign entry (gum-side inclusion), three with h.r., rich color, folded below line pair, F.-V.F. and rare plate variety.

1909, 4¢ orange brown, D.L. watermark, imperf, vertical coil, earliest known usage, single tied by "Pittsburgh, Pa., Feb 18, 1911" machine postmark on green Pittsburgh Steel Co. illustrated advertising cover to Vermont, with additional ad on reverse, with original enclosures including a 40 page brochure with multicolored lithograph cover accounting for the multiple rate; cover lightly cleaned, otherwise Very Fine, an extremely rare and earliest document use of this imperforate coil, with only four recorded usages of this stamp all from the same correspondence, ex-Berkun.

1909, 5¢ blue, D.L. watermark, imperf, vertical coil, earliest known usage, two singles showing slightly rough separation at top and bottom as well as slight scouring from a stamp affixing devices (most likely the early Simplex Stamp Affixer), tied by indistinct handstamps on registered printed return cover to New York, purple "Brooklyn, N.Y., Registered, Apr 17, 1909" origin cds on front and reverse, red New York registry receiving oval backstamp; cover with small edge tears at top, otherwise Very Fine, the earliest of only eight recorded usages of the 5¢ vertical imperforate coil issue; with 2005 P.F. & A.P.S. certificates.
