1870, 1¢ ultramarine, H. grill, N.B.N.C. printing, exceptionally well centered within wide even margins, clearly defined grill, beautiful color on bright paper, lightly unobtrusive cancel, fresh and Extremely Fine gem, ex-Morton; with 2017 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates, latter Graded (XF-S 95, SMQ $1,500), only four graded higher (two at 95J and two at 98).

1870, 1¢ ultramarine, H. grill, N.B.N.C. printing, exceptionally well centered, rich color, canceled by cork duplexed with indistinct cds on unsealed Portland Stone Ware Co. illustrated advertising cover showing drain pipes and bottles with stamp collar, addressed to Bridgewater Mass., Extremely Fine and choice with an outstanding stamp; with 2006 P.S.E. certificate.

1870, 1¢ ultramarine, I. grill, N.B.N.C. printing, vertical pair, clearly-defined grills, tied by two strikes of "New-York P.O. May" cds on cover to Jersey City N.J., neat "Due 1" in circle handstamp for short payment of the 3¢ rate; barely reduced at right, Very Fine and scarce I. grill use.

1870, 2¢ red brown, I. grill, N.B.N.C. printing, beautifully centered with vibrant rich color on bright paper, large quartered cork cancel, fresh and Extremely Fine; with 2002 and 2019 P.S.E. certificates, former Graded (XF-S 95, SMQ $1,100), this is the sole example graded "95" with only two graded higher.
