1879, 5¢ blue, A.B.N.C. printing, horizontal pair, tied by "New-York, Sep 17 '80" duplex on cover to Sydney, New South Wales, matching "N.Y.P.O./One Rate/Short Paid" three-line handstamp and blue crayon "Due 2" rating, partial "New York, D.L.O." cds backstamp, letter returned to sender; left 5¢ couple nibbed perfs, Very Fine.

Provisions of postal treaty for mail franked at less than one rate (12¢) was to be returned for postage - if unable to find sender, mail would be sent to the dead letter office.

No." framed postmark on legal-size cover to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, endorsed "Per S.S. "Advance" at top left, reverse with "New York N.Y., Reg.'y Div., 2-17, 1888" oval and New York (FX-NY1a) registry label affixed, blue Rio de Janeiro (3.22) arrival backstamp; cover slightly reduced and open at top and right, Very Fine appearance, ex-Krug, Martin, Gross; with 1955 and 2019 P.F. certificates.
