Apr 18, cds with matching fancy "Paid 10" rating handstamp on 1862 datelined folded letter to Society Hill S.C., excellent war contents concerning the Battle of Elkhorn (Pen Ridge) reading: "We has lost a great many brave men from this part of the state. The battle in North West Ark was a poor thing. We only lost about 80 men in killed & 3 or 400 in wounded and prisoners. The enemy acknowledge a loss of 900 killed and 1400 wounded. McCullough was killed by sharp shooters. McIntosh was killed in a charge. If Van Dorn had fought them one hour longer he would have captured all the northern army. His retreat is a perfect mystery to all troops…The curse Van Dorn universally."; some edge wear, Very Fine and excellent Battle of Elkhorn content letter.
