Hawaii, 1863, Numeral, 2¢ black on grayish, plate 3-G, type V, position 5, huge margins all around, tied by multiple pen strokes on folded cover to Levi Haalelea at Honolulu, Very Fine, ex-Seybold.
Scott No. 16    $5,000.

Levi Haalelea was an important figure in Hawaiian history and was married to Princess Kekauonohi, the granddaughter of Kamehameha I.

Hawaii, 1863, Numeral, 2¢ black on blue gray, plate 5A, type IV, position 4, large "2" with "broken toe", no gum, little to no margin, faults, about Fine appearance. A premium position., ex-Steiner; with 2007 P.F. certificate noting "large sealed tear, stains and tone spots".

An attractive and very rare used example of the 1¢ black on white wove numeral; fewer than 15 examples are recorded.

Hawaii, 1865, Numeral, "Interisland", 5¢ blue on blue, plate 12-A: a reconstruction of all ten positions in the setting, unused except for position 10 which has a diamond grid cancel, five of the unused have o.g., one cut close, the others with large to oversize margins, a few minor flaws, as one would expect, otherwise Fine to Extremely Fine, ex-Steiner.
