1894, $1 lake, type II, trial color large die proof on card, 112x155mm showing full die sink, rich deep color and exceptional sharp impression, Extremely Fine.

Scott catalog lists two color trials, colors in lake and orange, on India, we know of only this example in Lake which is printed directly on card and only one example in orange which is printed on India, both of these trial colors may well unique.

1895, 8¢ violet brown, D.L. watermark, in combination with 1899, 2¢ red, two singles in shades (279B) on fresh 2¢ red registered entire addressed to Wells, Fargo & Co. Express in San Francisco, Cal., with Tientsin military return address at upper left, all tied by straight line "CHINA" handstamps, purple "Registered, Mil. Postal Sta. No. 1, China, Nov 22, 1900" cds's, San Francisco, Jan 4., 1901 receiving backstamps, Very Fine and choice, one of two known complete registered covers bearing this rare handstamp, ex-Drucker.

THE EARLIEST KNOWN USAGE OF THE RARE TIENTSIN "CHINA" STRAIGHT LINE HANDSTAMP ON COVER - USED ONLY ON MILITARY MAIL DURING THE BOXER REBELLION.

This "China" handstamp was used from early November of 1900 to February of 1901. Only a couple full covers are known with partial covers and on piece items being far more common.

1895, $2 dark blue, D.L. watermark, light oval registry and red cancels, rich intense color, large even margins and perfect centering, Superb, a marvelous used gem; with 2019 P.F. certificate Graded (XF-S 95, SMQ $2,750).
Scott No. 277a    $400.

Although the P.F. certificate states this is the bright blue shade, the stamp is clearly in the dark blue shade. Also, the P.S.E. population report shows the highest graded used example of this stamp at 90.
