California Penny Post Co., 1855, 5¢ blue, vertical strip of 3, full o.g., margins ample to slightly in at top and upper left, small flaws, due to thin fragile nature of the paper, including a couple reinforced nicks at sides and gum crease in top stamp slightly breaking paper, F.-V.F. appearance, these stamp may well be the only original gum examples known, ex-Lilly & Hall.

California Penny Post Co., 1855-59, 5¢ black on buff, cover showing "Daguerreotpyes" spelling error in directive text, franked with 1852, 3¢ dull red (11A) tied by manuscript, blue "Knight's Ferry, Cal., July 27" cds at left, addressed to the Penny Post Co. in San Francisco; cover with couple filing pinholes left of center, Very Fine and choice, ex-Chapman, Dale-Lichtenstein & L. Lyons; with 2004 P.F. certificate.

ONE OF THREE KNOWN EXAMPLES OF THIS CALIFORNIA PENNY POST CO. 5¢ FRANK ON BUFF COVER.

Only three examples are recorded in the Frajola census. One used from New York with a 1855 10¢ issue and a Swarts local post issue. The other sent from Honolulu, Hawaii bearing a 5¢ Missionary issue.

California Penny Post Co., 1855-59, 7¢ black on buff, entire showing "Daguerreotpyes" spelling error in directive text, on fresh cover franked with ample to mostly large margin 1853, 3¢ dull red (11) tied by blue wide grid handstamp with matching "Marysville, Cal., May 6" cds; cover opening tear at top through top imprint and top left corner of local frank, otherwise Very Fine, ex-"Edwards" & Golden; with 2000 P.F. certificate.

It is interesting to note that this envelope is slightly larger than other covers of the period. This was done to make it easier for the sender to place a letter and regular cover into this cover as the directive indicates.

California Penny Post Co., 1855-59, 7¢ black, imprint on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire (U9) to San Francisco, manuscript canceled with blue "Knight's Ferry, Cal., Jul 23" cds at left; central file fold and some light soiling and staining, Fine appearance, still one of two recorded examples of this 7¢ California Penny Post frank on a U9 entire.

City Despatch Post, 1842, 3¢ black on grayish, bright and fresh with four huge margins, just tied by red octagonal "FREE" handstamp on local 1842 folded letter, postmarked clear matching "City Despatch Post, N.Y, 15 Jun, 9 O'Clock." double-line cds, Extremely Fine and choice; with 2021 P.F. certificate.

Frazer & Co., 1845-51, 2¢ black on pink, neat manuscript "2" cancel, clear to large margins, certificate mentions small closed tear at bottom right which we find no evidence of, Very Fine, a great Cincinnati local rarity - with only two on cover usages are recorded and at least three off cover examples are known; with 2000 P.F. certificate.

Hiram Frazer established Frazer & Co. in 1845 while he was a Cincinnati letter carrier. His Eagle design issues used between February 3rd of 1848 and June 30th of 1849 are considered to be carrier stamps.
