1861, 1¢ blue, type I, immaculate Post Office fresh original gum which is lightly hinged, remarkably well centered clearly showing full scrolls at top and bottom, strong bright color, wonderful freshness, Extremely Fine and choice; with photocopy of 1989 P.F. certificate for block.

1857, 1¢ blue, type Ia, position 92L4, fine centering and sharp detailed impression, tied by "New York, Oct 8" cds on folded printed merchant advertising notice to Pennington N.J., F.-V.F., ex-Gorham; with 1984 and 2007 P.F. certificates.

1857, 1¢ blue, type V, top margin single, o.g., never hinged, exceptional centering amid uncommonly wide margins, especially at top and bottom which normally impinges on design, rich vivid color and very fresh, an Extremely Fine to Superb jumbo, the only example to receive this jumbo grade by the P.S.E. with only two example higher (both 98); with 2014 & 2020 P.S.E. certificates, both Graded (XF-Sup 95J, SMQ $2,250).

A TRULY OUTSTANDING NEVER HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 1¢ TYPE V PERFORATED ISSUE.

It is interesting to note that no other never hinged example has ever receive a jumbo designation in any other grade except this one.

1857, 1¢ blue, type V, block of 9, o.g., some hinge reinforcements, center stamps never hinged, attractively centered, strong vibrant color, top left stamp with gum inclusion (not detracting) and a couple minute separation tears in top right stamp, Very Fine and attractive, ex-Caspary & Lehman; with 2022 M. Eichele certificate.

1857, 1¢ blue, type V, used with three 1¢ blue (63) singles, two with nat. s.e. at left, tied by two bold strikes of "New-York, May 21, 1863" duplex with geometric fancy on cover to New Haven Ct., one #63 small tear, otherwise Very Fine and rare combination franking prepaying the 3¢ letter rate plus 1¢ carrier fee.

1857, 3¢ claret, type I, horizontal pair, blue Waukesha, Wis. town cancel, wide margins and remarkably and well centered for this notorious tight margin issue, strong bright color, Very Fine to Extremely Fine; with 2006 & 2022 P.F. certificates, the latter Graded (VF-XF 85, SMQ $1,200 for singles).
