Dead Letter Office Mail and Collateral featuring Wegner Collection Pages, album of 85 items including early mail and a wide range of D.L.O. handstamps, note 1814 receipt attached to quarterly return, 1828 "forwarded by request" letter sent to DLO, 1833 Rutland Vt. fancy oval use sent to DLO, 1836 Washington D.C. free frank cover sent to DLO, several early official covers sent to DLO, 1840 preprinted DLO return letter, 1830 to Ireland with money draft; 1850 free franked advertising use, 1850s Sacramento City Cal. 3¢ #26 use "Due 3" sent to DLO, 1879 OX2 use with "Philadelphia, Dead" cds use, 1868 "San Francisco, Dead Letter Office" double-circle handstamp on returned letter receipt, OXB2 and OXB7 uses, etc., some mixed condition, F.-V.F.

U.S. Dead Letter Office in the 19th Century - Barlow Exhibit Balance, balance of 5-frame exhibit with single and double-pages, starts with early postmaster reports, DLO handstamps including "G.P. Office" and later "P.O. Dept" circular handstamps in red and black, latter "P.O. Department, Dead Letter Office" large double-oval, "Dead Letter Office, G.P.O. Dept, Postage Not Paid" double-oval, smaller cds styles, etc, note 1831 unclaimed ship letter and "refused" letter; Dead Letter return letters and envelopes from 1830s to 1880s showing postage due envelopes transitioning to free, Official stamps and penalty mail; held for postage mail, various DLO divisions including return letter division, property division, minor division, money division, DLO foreign mail, registered foreign mail, pointing finger handstamps, DLO seals, unmailable matter, deficiency in address supplied including labels, blind reading with DLO forwarding label, DLO trace requests, carrier labels, corner cards and postal stationery, National Return association, etc., Very Fine and wonderful exhibit balance tracing the DLO operations from the 1830s to 1890s.

Dead Letter Office - Forms and other Matter, binder with DLO forms and correspondence, note 1840-41 accounting sheet, several DLO return letters to Postmasters from 1845 on, several printed forms describing P.O.D. regulations, noting deficiencies in reporting, disposition of unmailable matter, etc., DLO receipt for picking up a dead letter, 1880s requests for postage on mailed letters, 1859 Washington DC P.O. form letter concerning newspaper at DLO; many ex-Wegner.
