1814-17, $15 Federal Licence to Sell Liquor, strong high emboss impression, on printed form license to retail foreign merchandise in Newburyport, Mass., dated December 31, 1813, Extremely Fine, an exceptional example, the stamp was valid for one year, the tax was abolished January 1, 1818, only 39 stamps reported.

1814-17, 4½¢ per Gallon, Federal Licence to Work a Still, dated September 18, 1817, licence in the District of Virginia, was for distilling alcohol from domestic materials for one week; some file fold and light wrinkling, Very Fine, with only six examples recorded which includes two found after the Combs survey.

The stamp is printed, but is classified with embossed revenues. The Federal government probably needed a stamp quickly and did not have enough time to have a die made for an embossing.

1817, 9¢ per Gallon, Federal Licence to Work a Still, dated September 20, 1817, licence in the District of Virginia, was for distilling alcohol from domestic materials for two weeks; allover toning, reinforced folds and corner repaired at bottom right, Fine, very rare with only five examples reported.
