Mexico, 1866, Emperor Maximilian (litho), 13c blue, Mexico, district name only, block of 49, o.g., mostly never hinged, ample to large margins all around, rich color, vertical and horizontal separation crease, a few small thins affecting two stamps, otherwise Very Fine, a remarkable multiple and the second largest known, ex-Dormer.
Scott Nos. 27    Estimate $3,000 - 4,000.

When the Eagle issue was demonetized, 5,103 13c Maximilians where issued with district name and without consignment number. These were to be traded for the Eagle issues that where in the hands of postal customers.
