(Kern) Joyful, 5/16/84, manuscript postmark (KER-2000) on manuscript canceled 2¢ red entire to Anaheim, Bakersfield transit and receiving backstamps; small cover tear at top left, Very Fine, an extremely rare and latest recorded postmark from the short-lived Joyful post office, with known usage between April 26th and May 16th of 1884.

(Kern) Keene, California, Dec 31, 1888, bold purple cds (KER-2010) with matching wheel-of-fortune handstamp canceling 2¢ green (213) on cover to Upton, Me.; cover with slight soiling and small tear at top, a Very Fine strike, this being the earliest and only recorded first type Keene postmark.

(Kern) Keene, Cal., Mar 20, 1889, bold strike of cds (KER-2020) on cover to Sacramento, Cal., with matching target handstamp tying 2¢ Banknote, receiving backstamp; cover opening slit at top right, an Extremely Fine strike, the only recorded example of Keene's second type postmark.

(Kern) Kernville, Cal., May 1, choice strike of cds (KER-2130) on fresh 1870, 3¢ green entire to Oakland, Cal., with matching target handstamp canceling; reduced at left, Very Fine, the only recorded example of Kernville's first type handstamp postmark.

Lot 987    

(Kern) Keysville, Apr 6, manuscript postmark on 1861, 3¢ pink entire to Morison's, Cal., with black printed "Langton's Pioneer Express" frank at upper left, manuscript "Via Downieville" routing endorsement; cover opening at left slightly into frank an endorsement, Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Keysville resided in Kern county between 1866-68 and later transfered to Tulare county near the ens of April of 1868. The usage of a 1861 entire (rather than a 1864 entire) indicates this usage is more likely a Kern county usage.

(Kern) Linn's Valley (Cal.), Oct 25, 1868, red manuscript postmark (KER-2380) on manuscript canceled 3¢ pink entire to Jamestown, Cal., red printed "Pacific Union Express Co." scroll frank at top; cover small flaws including light soiling and small tears, Fine, the earliest of only three examples recorded.

(Kern) Neuralia, Cal., Jul 24, 1915, Doane type cds (KER-3020) tying 1¢ green on post card to Modesto, Cal., Very Fine, the Neuralia post office operated from March 1914 to May 1916, this is the only recorded postmark from this town.
